It is characterised by plush mansions on large stands with spectacular views of the Northern suburbs. It is also home to some of Johannesburg's top Schools.

Lower Houghton - once home to Nelson Mandela - has seen flourishing re-development with many stands being subdivided and lavish Clusters erected.  This area due to its proximity to Rosebank is also a popular choice with commercial investors

Houghton's location is superb not just in respect of essential amenities & facilities but in proximity to the Business Hubs of Rosebank, Sandton, Braamfontein & Johannesburg City Centre.  Situated either side of the M1, there is access to North & South of the Freeway at many interchanges. Numerous municipal routes cross Houghton.  A vital Minibus Taxi route along Louis Botha Ave connects Hillbrow to Alexandra.  The Gautrain Bus Service links Park Station to Rosebank Gautrain Station.  Or Tambo International Airport is 30 minute drive time.

Houghton's most popular outdoor attraction is The Wilds Nature Reserve.  Set in 16 hectares of wonderful indigenous vegetation it offers rambling paths one can hike along and glorious views of Johannesburg & suburbs from the Koppies.  Efforts to heighten security ensure that visiting is a relaxing experience.

Gardens are treed, lush & immaculate.   Prices range from R 4 Million for an older dwelling requiring renovation upwards to R 20 million and above dependent on erf size, finishes & views.                                                                                                                                                              Clusters too are in a similar price range - these are more contemporary but are stylish and lavish and have the advantage of being in secure, elite, enclosed complexes.
