Younger Property Buyers Favouring Smart Homes

Most of the Generation X and Generation Y consumers who are buying homes today grew up with the Internet, email, Google, smartphones and tablets and they want to use technology, not only in their search for a home but in their home on an everyday basis.

That's the finding of a brand new survey by Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate in the United States, which is quoted in the latest issue of the Property Signposts newsletter.

This shows that 77% of Gen X and Gen Y homebuyers are looking for homes with a high degree of technological capability - that is, "smart homes" that are not only properly wired and networked for all their computers, cell phones, entertainment units and other electronic equipment, but true smart homes that have a large degree of automation.

Indeed, says Better Homes & Gardens , these homebuyers are "rewriting the rules to home ownership and reinterpreting traditional norms".
