Pre-book installation providers (dishwasher, washing machine, alarms etc.), especially if DIY is not your strength
Get moving insurance in case anything goes wrong
Open a new municipal account (such as a City of Joburg account)
Transfer and cancel old service providers, such as your internet provider
Update your address with important contacts, such as your bank, insurer, employer, etc.
Ensure that you're moving in only once the seller has moved out.
Use a reputable moving company.
Try moving mid-month. It's cheaper than moving at the end/beginning of the month.
Move valuables yourself and make sure to have a space place to store them at the new home.
Keep some cash handy on the day to tip the moving company and other suppliers.
Pack a bag of essential items for the first night (toothbrush, soap, change of clothing, etc.)
Have a basic toolkit on hand (hammer, nails, tape measure, etc.) in case you need to install items/appliances on the day.
