The Chas Everitt International property group has officially opened its new office in Bulawayo, under the experienced leadership of local property veteran Jonathan Thompson, one of the leading lights behind the premier Kings City development taking place on the outskirts of the city.
This follows the establishment of a Harare operation earlier this year and represents a significant step in the group’s long-term vision to become the leading estate agency of choice in Zimbabwe. A second office in Harare and one in Victoria Falls are on the cards.
Chas Everitt Chief Operating Officer Barry Davies says the decision to bring the brand to Zimbabwe was driven by both opportunity and timing. “Firstly, Zimbabwe’s economy has shown steady recovery and strong growth in key sectors, especially mining, tourism and agriculture, all of which are fuelling renewed property demand and investment,” he says.
“So we are optimistic about the future of the local real estate market and its capacity to create employment, stability and personal wealth for Zimbabweans at home and in the diaspora. And we want to play a role in helping to build that future. Every new branch we open strengthens our ability to create value, not only for property buyers and sellers but for local economies. The real estate sector plays a vital role in job creation and wealth building, and we are confident that our presence in Bulawayo will contribute meaningfully to both.”
Secondly, says Davies, the group had the opportunity to convert a leading local agency, Thompson Properties, to the Chas Everitt brand. “Jonathan and his team already have deep roots in the Bulawayo community and a comprehensive understanding of the local real estate market, which is now enhanced by international best practices and access to our worldwide marketing platforms. Together, we intend putting this city on the international real estate map.”
Davies notes that Chas Everitt Zimbabwe offers a full suite of services designed for both local and international clients. “Our portfolio covers residential and commercial sales, rentals, professional property management and strategic support for investment and development projects.
“We specialise in assisting Zimbabweans living abroad as well as foreign investors to acquire local properties, ensuring straightforward transactions and clear market guidance. At the same time, we are able to give local property owners and developers access to real referral pipelines between Zimbabwe, South Africa and key global hubs through our membership of the Leading Real Estate Companies of the World® network, which spans more than 500 offices in 70 countries.
“And when it comes to property management, we look after investors’ properties as if they were our own. Our service to these clients includes marketing and advertising their properties, vetting tenants, managing leases, collecting rent and ensuring that maintenance tasks and repairs are done.”
The Bulawayo office launch coincides with the country’s premier mining exhibition, Mine Entra, which is taking place this week. (8 to 10 October). “This event not only draws thousands of mining industry leaders but also policymakers, financiers, developers, suppliers and investors from around the world,” says Davies.
“It provides an incredible platform for them to network, and with property being an integral part of the mining universe, we believe it will also be an excellent opportunity to showcase local real estate and housing developments.”
Thompson, who is well known for his involvement in major local developments such as the Kings City project, says he is proud to be part of the Chas Everitt International family. “We share the primary aim of building long-term client relationships through professionalism, transparency and care, and joining a brand with this level of international credibility now allows us to serve those clients, at home and abroad, with a far greater reach.”
