Humansdorp at a glance

The bustling little town of Humansdorp is located in the Eastern Cape, about a three quarter of an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth just off the N2 highway some 17 kilometres from Jeffrey's Bay and 20 kilometres from St Francis Bay. Humansdorp is notably known as the centre of the Humansdorp districts farming area.

The town of Humansdorp was originally established in 1849. Matthys Human (owner of "Rheeboksfontein”) gave up a portion of the farm for the establishment of a town. Humansdorp was originally called Alexander, and was renamed Humansdorp some years later. The town of Humansdorp became a municipality in the early 1900's.

Many people remember Humansdorp for its tree-lined streets and roads in its suburbs which were planted in the early 1900's by the then Town Mayor, Mr Ambrose Saffery.

Humansdorp is seen as a central servicing centre for the surrounding flourishing farming community and quietly goes about its business servicing the local needs.

To many the town of Humansdorp is seen as a marker point for the far Eastern border of the famed "Garden Route" coast and serves as a gateway to the likes of increasingly popular tourist and holiday destinations such as St Francis Bay and internationally renowned surfers paradise, Jeffrey's Bay, both of which offer a range of Eastern Cape homes and properties.

Humansdorp is a quaint and attractive little place with its selection of high street shops, its little watermill, an agricultural type museum, and a park area designed and set out to form a replica of the British Union Jack.

The areas surrounding Humansdorp afford some picturesque walks and trails including the popular and well-travelled "Boskloof Trail".

Annual local events in the Humansdorp are include the well-attended and perennially popular Agricultural Show in Humansdorp as well as the Kouga Cultural Festival.
